How do you know if a drain is clogged?
There are a number of signs to be on the look out for if you think you have a clog in one of your drains.
- If your toilet is bubbling
- When you run water and it comes back up from your shower or sink drain
- Water doesn't drain as fast as it used to
- A noticeable bad odor coming from the drains
- Puddles of water forming near the sink or tub
What causes a clogged drain?
In kitchen sinks, grease build up is one of the most common causes of a clogged kitchen sink. Grease pours down the sink from plates and plans and it solidifies in the pipe until no water can get through. Food particles can also attach themselves to the grease and cause more build up.
In the bathroom, hair is the most common cause of shower drains being clogged. Soap and toothpaste can also contribute to clogging your shower drains.
In toilets, it's caused by a build up of toilet paper, paper towels, and disposable wipes.
How to see if you have leaks in your home
The best way to see if you have a leak in your home, turn off all the water in your house and go out to your water meter and note where it's at. Then after 2 hours go back and check it to see if the meter increased at all. If it did, water is leaking somewhere because the meter measure how much water comes out of your pipes, if you have a leak it will show up on the meter.
